  1. Design and Budgeting

Q.1 How should I approach the design process?

The best place to start is to begin a project binder or file and collect magazine articles/pictures that appeal to you. Another photo source is to search online and print or save your favorite images. Next step is to share your “wish list”, budget and photo collection with one of our designers. It’s a process that’s guaranteed to get your creative ideas flowing.

Q.2 How much will a complete kitchen renovation cost?

This is the question we often hear first and most often. The answer depends on several factors, including: 1. The size of the kitchen. 2. What features you want. 3. Whether you update your appliances. 4. The style and material you choose for cabinets, countertops and flooring. These are the main items that will impact your budget.

Survey results from the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) indicate that the average kitchen renovation, including design, products and installation is $26,000.

The average kitchen reno selling price reflects average cabinets, appliances, and a kitchen size of 150 to 300 square feet.

Should you want high end custom products and appliances, the price can escalate from $30,000 to $100,000 and in some cases even higher.

Q.3 What are the biggest variables in the pricing of a new kitchen?

Cabinets as a rule, account for 30 to 50% of the total cost for a kitchen renovation. Factors which influence the cost, include 1. Material used to make the cabinets. 2. Whether you choose stock (ready made cabinets) or have custom sizes built and finished to the color of your choice, and, 3. Quality of hardware, drawer slides, etc.

Your choice of countertop, backsplash and flooring will also influence price considerably.

The last big variable is the quality of the workmanship. You generally get what you pay for in the remodeling business. Skilled, experienced designers, tradesmen and installers may cost more, but you’ll notice the difference every time.

  2. Cabinets

Q.1 What is refacing, and how is it done?

Refacing is an option to consider if you like the layout of your kitchen and just want to freshen up the appearance. It’s a lower cost option compared to removing the existing cabinets and installing a complete new set. Refacing involves removing all the existing cabinet doors and drawer fronts. The visible cabinet surfaces are than refaced in the laminate and color you’ve selected in our workshop. New hinges as well as new hardware that you’ve selected are installed, resulting in a fresh new look for your kitchen.

Q.2 When refacing cabinets, is anything done with the inside of the cabinets?

The interiors of the cabinets and drawers stay as they are. If you have any questions about the condition of the interiors of your cabinets or drawers one of our staff will inspect your existing cabinets and make an appropriate recommendation.
